Associate, Global Supply Network

William Sentell is a corporate associate in the Firm’s global supply network industry team. He counsels national and global clients on transactional, regulatory, and dispute resolution matters in the areas of franchising, licensing, distribution, manufacturing, logistics and cooperatives. He also has extensive experience resolving complex franchise and related commercial disputes.

William has served as “outside general counsel” to a mature franchise system with over 160 locations in the U.S. and abroad. In that role, he has provided timely, clear and sound legal advice related to every aspect of his client’s business. William advises existing and emerging franchisors and has experience structuring non-traditional deals and other co-branded opportunities.

Litigation Experience

William is routinely called upon to manage and resolve complex disputes in state and federal courts, and in mediation and arbitration. He has defended numerous claims involving improper disclosure, improper/early termination, statutory violations, vicarious liability, fraud, negligent misrepresentation, breach of contract, and breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing. Avoiding risk in the area of franchise sales, and managing system-wide franchisee and vendor relationships, is a practice focus for William.

At his prior firm, William successfully defended an international franchisor in a multi-million dollar arbitration dispute. Among other responsibilities, William managed all pre-hearing discovery and motion practice, examined key witnesses at a final week-long hearing, and delivered closing arguments. In a sweeping 28-page ruling, the arbitrator dismissed all of the franchisees’ claims and awarded the franchisor $444,871 in damages and attorney’s fees.

Leadership in Corporate, Industry and Civic Groups

William is a member of the ABA’s Forum on Franchising, the International Franchise Association and Denver’s Franchise Business Network. William has been a frequent lecturer at Tulane University and the University of New Orleans about issues affecting the franchise community. He also co-founded Franchise Growth Forum, which is an industry group for franchisors based in Louisiana.

Since 2012, William has been recognized by Louisiana Super Lawyers magazine as a Rising Star in the area of Franchise/Dealership law. He is currently the only Louisiana-licensed attorney to receive that distinction.

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
