Gardere’s lawyers frequently provide their time, talent and resources across the spectrum of community activities – culture and arts, civic leadership and a wide array of philanthropic initiatives.

One of the Firm’s most notable and high profile commitments is the Annual Gardere MLK Jr. Oratory Competition. This unique event was established in 1993 in Dallas and four years later expanded to Houston, with the goal of extolling the work and teachings of the late civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Presented in the spirit of learning and celebration, the program was designed to highlight the cultural diversity of the community, while recognizing and encouraging the writing and presentation skills of elementary school students. All finalists receive monetary gifts of varying amounts and other prizes, and each participating school receives a book on civil rights for their libraries.

The Gardere Women’s Council works to support women’s issues and related mentoring and business development efforts. The Council leads the Firm’s decade-long support of Dress for Success®, an organization which promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire and a network of support and career development tools to help them thrive in work and life. During our years as the Presenting Platinum Sponsor, Gardere has raised more than $740,000 for Dress for Success and has been heavily involved in coordinating and promoting its annual “A Night Out” event, which is now a signature fundraiser for Dress for Success Houston and an annual tradition at the Firm.

Gardere is also a proud participant in the Dallas Bar Association Home Project Build Day benefiting Habitat for Humanity. Each spring, the Dallas Bar Association partners with the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity to build homes, strengthen families and revitalize neighborhoods in the Dallas community. The Firm has taken part in this event since 1994, and has helped build more than 20 homes for deserving families in the community. To date, the Firm has raised over $180,000 to directly benefit the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity.

The Firm is a proud supporter of the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas, an organization that offers free legal representation to those victims who are most vulnerable and, often times, invisible to the justice system. In 2016, HRI presented Gardere with the Angel of Freedom Award which recognizes individuals and companies who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to carrying out the organization’s mission. To date, Gardere has accounted for more than 2,345 hours of pro bono work by approximately 30 lawyers and paralegals valued at approximately $1 million.

Additionally, Team Gardere has participated in the BP MS 150 for the past 15 years. Each year, attorneys, clients, family members and friends make the two-day, 180-mile fundraising bicycling ride from Houston to Austin to raise funds to support multiple sclerosis research, programs and services provided by the National MS Society that benefit more than nearly 20,000 Texans in 141 counties affected by MS. To date, Gardere has raised more than $2.1 million over the last 15 years to directly benefit cutting-edge research, programs and services that will help find a cure for MS. Team Gardere is a past recipient of the “Mission Possible” award. Other Gardere MS fundraising efforts have included the participation of the Firm's Dallas-based Gardere Gearheads team in the Bike MS: Sam’s Club Round Up Ride from Frisco to Fort Worth from 2006-2013. The Gearheads are a past recipient of the "Third Highest Fundraising Team Award."

Search Tips:

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.

AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance."

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
