HOUSTON - Partner James Cooper of Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP was honored by the Houston Bar Association with the prestigious President's Award during the HBA's Annual Dinner Meeting on May 16, 2013. Mr. Cooper received the honor based on his outstanding contribution to the local bar while serving as chair of the HBA Historical Committee.

With a history spanning more than 143 years, the HBA relies on the Historical Committee to research and preserve the rich history of the association and its members. During his tenure as chair, Mr. Cooper led the committee in preserving and expanding the HBA Living History Program by spearheading efforts to digitize existing interviews with prominent senior members of the HBA and expanding interviews to include noteworthy contemporary cases.

"I am honored to receive a President's Award for my work on the Historical Committee," remarked Mr. Cooper. "It is my great pleasure to be able to give back to the legal community through my service with the Houston Bar Association."

This is the second time Mr. Cooper has earned the President’s Award, having garnered the same honor in 2010 based on his service as co-chair of the HBA's Professionalism Committee. Mr. Cooper also received the 2012 Jim D. Bowmer Professionalism Award from the College of the State Bar of Texas based on his professionalism and strong legal ethics. Mr. Cooper is a partner in the Trial Group at Gardere and serves as co-chair of the Firm's Policyholder Specialty Practice Group.
