S.L. Owens is an associate in the corporate practice group and a member of the Firm’s global supply network industry team. Her practice is dedicated to representing national and global brands. She advises clients on creating efficient supply chain systems, building strong franchise, distribution and supply chain networks, and complying with international sales laws.  

Some of S.L.’s recent experience includes:

  • Negotiating and drafting complex franchise, development, product, service and licensing agreements, including specialty service agreements such as media services agreements and manufacturing and supply agreements; 
  • Conducting sophisticated due diligence for global franchise, distribution and supply chain systems;
  • Assisting investors, buyers and sellers with executing mergers and acquisitions of franchise systems; 
  • Advising national, international, established and emerging brands on designing and implementing supply chain systems; 
  • Guiding brands on complying with domestic and international franchise, direct sells and business opportunity regulations; and  
  • Counseling domestic and international brands on designing and implementing growth strategies. 

Furthermore, S.L.’s industries of focus are restaurant, beverage and foodservice, retail and consumer goods, fashion and apparel, as well as manufacturing, transportation and logistics.  

Prior to joining Gardere, S.L. practiced with an Am Law 200 firm in the Midwest, where she focused on franchise, distribution and commercial litigation. Dual training in litigation and transactions enables S.L. to thoroughly spot issues and resolve matters. In turn, she assists clients in aligning their business and legal goals.  

S.L. is a first-generation college graduate who, before earning her law degree, conducted development projects in international exchange programs throughout Egypt and Ethiopia, and as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in South Africa. S.L. credits her experience as a first-generation graduate with helping her to develop grit and perspective, which she relies on to advance practical outcomes for clients.

You may use the wildcard symbol (*) as a root expander.  A search for "anti*" will find not only "anti", but also "anti-trust", "antique", etc.

Entering two terms together in a search field will behave as though an "OR" is being used.  For example, entering "Antique Motorcars" as a Client Name search will find results with either word in the Client Name.


AND and OR may be used in a search.  Note: they must be capitalized, e.g., "Project AND Finance." 

The + and - sign operators may be used.  The + sign indicates that the term immediately following is required, while the - sign indicates to omit results that contain that term. E.g., "+real -estate" says results must have "real" but not "estate".

To perform an exact phrase search, surround your search phrase with quotation marks.  For example, "Project Finance".

Searches are not case sensitive.
