Practice Emphasis
Permitting. Litigation. Regulations. The maze of environmental requirements businesses must navigate is daunting. The attorneys who make up Gardere’s Environmental Practice know the pathways through this maze, and have the wisdom of decades of experience helping corporate clients—large and small—meet their regulatory obligations and business goals.
In addition to their years in private practice, many of our Environmental attorneys have high-level E.P.A. experience, as well as backgrounds in engineering, consulting and academia. Combining their legal knowledge and human wisdom, they have represented clients, across a broad cross-section of industries, in federal and state courts nationwide, and before local, state and federal regulatory bodies. Our attorneys routinely work in new and developing areas of environmental regulation covering air, water and land, and have extensive experience in complex negotiations dealing with hazardous substance disposal liability and remedial actions.
Climate Change Task Force
Climate change may seem like an insurmountable challenge facing our world, but to our clients, it presents immediate and concrete business problems that require an understanding of profound issues, the wisdom to discern their potential impact and the experience to maneuver significant challenges. Our climate change task force bridges every legal discipline and provides clients with sound advice to deal with this vexing issue.
Gardere does much more than pay lip service to Climate Change and sustainability issues. We realize the importance of taking tangible steps to reduce energy use in our own offices. Gardere is the first Texas-based law firm to join the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge by making a commitment to reduce our energy usage by 10% in each of our offices.
As part of its Climate Challenge participation, Gardere has been working with EarthPeople, LLC, a Dallas-based sustainability consulting firm. EarthPeople assisted Gardere with the preparation of its 2007 Sustainability Report, the firm's first voluntary reporting of its environmental challenges and contributions. EarthPeople helped the firm evaluate its materials and waste stream, procurement policy and operations to identify opportunities for energy efficiency and resource conservation.
Environmental Compliance and Natural Resources Regulation
Our goal is to ensure our clients’ compliance with all relevant environmental requirements while also maintaining their profitability. Our attorneys regularly assist clients in day-to-day licensing and permitting matters, locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. In addition, we have significant experience defending clients in all manner of regulatory matters.
Environmental Litigation
The Team's expertise encompasses the entire range of environmental, toxic tort, and oil and gas litigation. We also litigate actions involving alleged personal injuries or deaths from exposure to toxic substances, and claims arising out of indemnity and other contractual provisions allocating environmental responsibility. We are committed to resolving such matters in ways that are both commercially and environmentally sustainable.
White Collar Criminal Defense
Gardere’s environmental attorneys apply their technical expertise and in-depth experience as former prosecutors, EPA regulators or officials, and defense attorneys to complex situations and cases involving antitrust, banking, customs, environmental, health care, public corruption, securities, technology, and trade secrets laws and regulations. We understand that our clients’ lives and companies are at stake in such matters, and we don’t take this obligation lightly.
