Established in 2002, Gardere's Austin office is home to the Firm’s nationally recognized Government Affairs Practice Group which provides legislative and regulatory services to private corporations and public entities facing problems before state government.
Gardere's government relations practice consistently earns first-tier honors in the “Best Law Firms” rankings compiled by the U.S. News Media Group and Best Lawyers®, as well as in Capitol Inside’s Texas Lobby Power Rankings. Texas Lawyer recognized the Firm in 2013 for having the state’s largest legislative practice housed at a law firm.
The governmental relations team specializes in administrative and regulatory matters, issues before the attorneys general, insurance regulation, economic development, government contracts, litigation and litigation avoidance, and allegations of Medicaid fraud. Attorneys on this team have worked both inside and outside government and have extensive experience managing major state agencies and holding top litigation, legislative and public policy positions.
The government affairs team is also experienced in food and beverage issues, including financing and securities matters, alcoholic beverage licensing, regulatory and enforcement matters, general corporate issues, and other state and local licensing issues pending before the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, Comptroller’s office and other relevant agencies.

Our Austin attorneys primarily practice in the Western District of Texas, one of the busiest dockets in the country for complex litigation matters. In addition to handling cases from discovery through trial, the intermediate courts of appeal and the Texas Supreme Court, our Austin attorneys routinely serve as local counsel on cases pending before the Austin Division and Travis County. Gardere’s International Dispute Resolution Group also has a presence in the Austin office, representing clients in international litigation and arbitration disputes.
Gardere’s condemnation attorneys represent landowners and condemnors, covering property from pristine undeveloped, ranch and agricultural land to residential, commercial and outdoor advertising properties. Gardere handles condemnation matters from the earliest transactional stages through the conclusion of trial and appellate proceedings.
