Practice Emphasis

Alejandro Ortiz’s corporate practice focuses on the corporate and tax planning of international transactions and corporate finance. His areas of concentration include international acquisitions of all types of businesses, and procurement of government contracts in Mexico and Latin America.

Mr. Ortiz’s corporate finance practice includes private securities offerings, commercial loan transactions, privately placed investments, debt restructurings, and bond transactions. His practice in recent years has emphasized structured finance transactions in the private debt and equity markets. In the last five years Mr. Ortiz has been involved in more than 100 private debt transactions with an issuance value of $35 billion.

Mr. Ortiz is both a Mexican and a U.S. attorney, fluent in Spanish and English. He regularly works in Gardere's Mexico City office and with our professionals to service our international clients.

Mr. Ortiz has extensive experience in asset securitization transactions involving a wide variety of structures and assets. He has represented various financial institutions including:

Mr. Ortiz has also worked on:

He has worked on asset types that include:

  • Domestic and emerging markets high yield bonds
  • Commercial loans and participations

Mr. Ortiz has worked on planning a variety of international transactions and has represented various multinationals with their investments in Mexico and Latin America including Coca Cola, EDS, JCPenney and Mattel.

He has worked on the procurement of governmental energy contracts in Peru, Costa Rica and Mexico. He has also participated in acquisitions of telecommunications businesses in Mexico, Venezuela, Nicaragua and El Salvador.
